Kita
वयम्
the Indonesian word for Us.
In cities like Jakarta, nightlife operates as a contemporary site of ritual and collective gathering.
Kita makes the case that Indonesian material culture should be embedded within these environments.
Through readapting craft, Kita transforms it into an active component of contemporary spatial identity & immersive hospitality experiences.

Kita is a modular, kinetic wall-mounted installation built for environments of atmosphere and sensory absorption.
Through rhythmic movement and reflective surfaces, it uses cultural motifs to create a subtle state of visual entrainment ,
amplifying the club experience by embedding Indonesian craft as the operative force behind the spatial drama and immersive fantasy of nightlife interiors.

The motifs within each module are derived from geometric batik patterns, specifically kawung, one of the most recognisable motifs in Javanese textile tradition.

This visual language forms the structural foundation of the object, informing both its geometry and its motion framework.

Batik is translated into gold-toned torsional mirrored metal elements that loosely reference the form of the keris, the Javanese dagger, and metalworking traditions that predate the Indonesian nation-state.
As the elements rotate, the batik geometry fractures and realigns.
Light filters through the repeated forms and reflects on surrounding surfaces, turning a familiar motif into a shifting, kaleidoscopic surface of light.
